PacifiCorp files for recovery of Hunter related costs

GLASGOW, Scotland, Aug. 24, 2001 — ScottishPower, an international utility, today announced that its US subsidiary PacifiCorp filed on August 23, 2001 with the Utah Public Service Commission (PSC) to recover $104 million related to purchased power and other impacts arising from losing Hunter unit 1 from PacifiCorp's generation portfolio.

On February 9, 2001, the Utah PSC authorized PacifiCorp to defer costs related to the Hunter outage. The 430 MW unit was returned to service in early May 2001.

In Oregon & Wyoming, proceedings are already underway to account for and recover excess net power costs incurred as a result of market conditions and the Hunter unit outage. A filing to recover deferred costs in Idaho is scheduled to be made by December 2001.

The ScottishPower (NYSE: SPI - news) group supplies energy to millions of business and domestic customers across the UK, where it serves approximately one in five British households, and in the Western United States, through its merger with PacifiCorp in November 1999. The group is also active in telecommunications and retains a majority interest of its telecom subsidiary Thus (LSE: THUS).

ScottishPower's ADR, equivalent to four ordinary shares, trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SPI. ScottishPower's ordinary shares trade on the London Stock Exchange.
