GE Power Systems makes acquisition to expand air emissions testing and monitoring services

04/03/2001

ATLANTA, Ga., April 3, 2001 — GE Power Systems announced today the acquisition of the air emissions testing and monitoring businesses of Mostardi-Platt Associates, Inc., one of the largest independent, multi-disciplined environmental engineering and analysis firms in the U.S.

With this acquisition, GE Power Systems continues its investment in products and services designed to meet the growing needs of its power generation and industrial customers in the reduction, monitoring, and emission documentation of a wide range of regulated air pollutants. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Mostardi-Platt has been one of the leaders in air quality testing and monitoring services since 1976. Their air emissions testing professionals have designed and conducted programs to analyze, evaluate, and monitor process and point source emissions from thousands of commercial, industrial, and utility operations.

They also design, assemble, maintain, and certify both continuous and predictive emissions monitoring systems.

"The acquisition of Mostardi-Platt's air emissions testing and monitoring businesses further strengthens our portfolio of air quality systems and services for the energy industry," said Ricardo Artigas, President and CEO of GE Power System's Energy Services unit. "There's a strong global trend toward lower and lower emissions of a wide range of air pollutants. GE has already established leadership in the development and application of technology that dramatically reduces emissions of smog-inducing nitrogen oxides from both combustion turbines and fossil-fired boilers. And, our large cadre of combustion engineers and scientists are committed to the development of state-of-the-art, cost-effective solutions for the control and monitoring of other regulated pollutants such as mercury and fine particulates."

Bob Platt, President and co-founder of Mostardi-Platt, commented, "We look forward to being a part of the GE team and to enhance our offering to power generation and industrial customers. GE Power Systems' expertise in power plant combustion system technology and their current air emissions testing and monitoring businesses provide a solid foundation for developing more comprehensive air quality solutions for our customers. I'm particularly excited about the opportunity to leverage GE Power Systems' Monitoring and Diagnostics Center in Atlanta - which is currently linked on a real-time basis to over 250 combustion turbines located throughout the world."

Mostardi-Platt Associates (MPA) is headquartered in Elmhurst, IL (outside Chicago) and also operates out of two other locations in Indiana and Minnesota. MPA's environmental assessment, compliance management, and permitting & consulting businesses (which were not acquired by GE) will continue to operate as Mostardi Platt Environmental Services.
