Sempra Energy executive appointed to DOE energy management committee

Dec 1, 2000 (Newstream) — U.S. Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson has appointed Erbin Keith, senior vice president of delivery and operations for Sempra Energy Solutions, to the first-ever Federal Energy Management Advisory Committee (FEMAC).

The new federal panel, which recently was established by President Clinton, will review energy management issues at federal facilities throughout the nation. Issues include energy-savings performance contracts, utility energy service contracts, ENERGY STAR and other energy-efficient products, building design and efficiency, and renewable and clean energy technologies.

Other members in the 10-member committee represent state and federal energy agencies, architectural and construction firms, and energy and environmental groups.

The committee is also tasked with providing counsel to the Department of Energy on ways to achieve the federal energy management goals set by President Clinton through an executive order titled, "Greening the Government Through Energy Efficient Management."

FEMAC will help to link the administration's environmental and energy policies as it guides federal efforts to achieve energy conservation goals. These goals include reducing energy consumption at federal sites by 30 percent in 2005, and by 35 percent in 2010, based on 1985 energy use levels.

Sempra Energy Solutions offers integrated energy services to commercial, industrial, governmental and institutional customers. These offerings include commodity and energy-asset management, performance contracting, energy-facility ownership and management and energy-efficiency services.

Sempra Energy Solutions is not the same company as SDG&E/SoCalGas, the utilities. Sempra Energy Solutions is not regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission and customers do not have to buy its products or services to continue to receive quality regulated service from the utilities.
